Women to be inducted as officers in SSB for first time

A Times of India Report

Women to be inducted as officers in SSB for first time
Government has approved recruitment of young women as 'combat officers' in Sashastra Seema Bal.
NEW DELHI: Breaking the male bastion in the five decade-old Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the government has approved recruitment of young women as 'combat officers' in the second largest border guarding force.

The women officers, after induction, will have an opportunity to serve in far-flung border locations of the force which secures 'open' and important Indian frontiers with Nepal and Bhutan.

Young women under and up to the age of 25 years will be recruited as direct entry officers in the rank of assistant commandants (ACs) and according to sources in the Union home ministry, the force will have the trained women officers on ground by late 2015.

Till now, women could only don the combat uniform in the officer cadre in three other central security forces, the Central Reserve Police Force, Central Industrial Security Force and the Border Security Force.

However, women will still not be inducted as officers in the third border guarding force of the country — the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force — deployed along the China border.

The SSB, in 2007, was the first to recruit women in junior ranks of constables but since then, the contingents were being commanded by male officers and hence a desire was felt to have women officers in the paramilitary which has close to 1,400 women personnel in 'khaki' at present.

“Knowledge for the sake of knowledge, without benefitting fellow beings, is a dead end and only leads to the blind alley of unfulfilled frustration. Education is a meaningless ritual unless it can mould the character of students and give them values of life. The educational institutions have to ensure that each and every student in India is so educated that he is given the required ability both physically and mentally to build up a unique Nation. We are proud of our ancient heritage and we have to ensure that our future is no less glorious.”

Cambrian Public School, Kanke Road, Ranchi was established in the year 1993, under the aegis of Smt. Motiraj Devi Trust and is being promoted by the well known philanthropists of Jharkhand Shri Pancham Singh & Shri Parma Singh. The school has a fascinating infrastructure spread over 7.5 acres of land, on the Kanke Road, a posh area of the capital of Jharkhand.

The prime objective of this institution is to provide for its students an environment that would enhance their intellectual competence, religious thinking and make them perfectly fit to sail smoothly through the tumultuous sea of life and contribute their best in the development of the nation.

The school has a strength of almost 2700 students approx and starts from Nursery to Upto +2 level in Science & Commerce. It is affiliated to the CBSE, New Delhi . Our aim is to provide ‘Quality Education at an affordable cost’ as we have a good number of children coming from the lower middle class people, the poor tribal children who live in the adjoining basti’s and villages. Emphasis on all round development of the personality; opportunities for the development of as many co-curricular skills as possible, state-of art infrastructure to facilitate the academic programme, personal attention to each and every student, constant maintenance of contact with parents and guardians and willingness to give the best to the students are the primary aims and objectives of the institution.

The administration, staff and students are committed to the mission and work together to excel in the academic and the co-curricular areas. A dedicated team of faculty work under their stewardship and it is the institution’s mission to improve the quality of the academic process and to maintain balance between stringent academic demands and the pressing needs of every individual child.

The building has classrooms equipped with smart-boards, multimedia projectors, language rooms, science labs, computer lab, music and dance room and a well stocked library.

Admission is given to every type of student especially the weak and the low achievers. We mould such children so that by the time they finish schooling they are ready to face the challenges ahead. In a very short span of time noticeable changes can be seen even in the slow learners. It is the effort of the school to bring out the best in every child and help him/her to grow up as smart and confident individuals.
The strength of our school lies in academics right from the Pre-primary to the older school. The quantum of homework is defined in our schools so that children get to enjoy their childhood as well. We facilitate class libraries for the junior school so as to promote reading skills in the children.

Promotion from one level to another is rather liberal giving the students chances to improve, without losing their self-esteem Activity periods are conducted once in a week for every class wherein competitions in a lot of events are held at quarter final, semifinal and final levels hereby giving every child an opportunity to participate.

Hobby periods for every class form a part of the curriculum. Hobbies, like music, drama, debate, yoga and the like are offered to the students of Std.III and above. Annual workshop cum-Exhibition in all subjects bring out the creativity in every child. Workshops and talks on various subjects conducted for the students widen their mental horizons.

Inculcating values and building social responsibility in our students is an integral component of our schools. Through story telling classes we introduce our students to the rich culture and heritage of our country. Shlokas and inspirational songs which help the students to rise above their self-centeredness are taught to the students and sung during Assembly Yoga is taught to help them to be disciplined and also physically fit.

We have not only grown in terms of students admissions every year but also in student achievements, be it academics, placements and various other enterprises & initiatives.
