BITSAT 2014 Notification

BITSAT 2014 Online Application Form is available from today December 18, 2013. Candidates can apply online for the first year degree programmes in engineering for the academic year 2014-15. Candidates have to appear for the BITSAT 2014 Online Tests to avail admissions for the First Year Engineering Degree Courses.

Note: Applications are available till February 15, 2014

BITSAT 2014 Application Fees: Rs 1900 (Rs 1400 for female candidates)
Candidates appearing from Dubai Centre have to pay US $ 50 or Rs 3000 (Male or Female)

• Candidates have to log in after regsitration and enter their particulars
• Candidates will have to choose the BITSAT 2014 Exam Centres while filling in the BITSAT 2014 Online Application Form.
• For BITSAT 2014 Exam Centres in India - three centres have to be entered in order of preference
• Submit the BITSAT 2014 Online Application Form and take two copies of the printout for future reference
• A Unique BITSAT 2014 Application No will be generated on submission of the Online BITSAT 2014 Application Form. Candidates have to note this No for future reference
• For Payment by E-Challan, candidates must download and pay in cash at specified ICICI Bank branches.  for the list of ICICI Bank Branches
• Candidate DONOT need to send any documents to the BITS Office.

Applying to BITS for Admission:
In addition to applying for BITSAT 2014, candidates must also apply for admission to BITS separately with details of their Class XII marks and preference to the various courses offered.
The Application for Admissions to BITS will be available from May 20 to June 30, 2014.

Important: In case of mistakes in the online BITSAT 2014 Application Form.

• Candidates cannot change their Online Application details once submitted. However, in case of a mistake, candidates can apply for a second time online.
  
• Such an application must be accompanied by a letter to the Admission office BITS, Pilani mentioning the BITSAT 2014 Application no of the first application to be cancelled.
  
• Fresh Application fees have to be paid for the second application of BITSAT 2014.
  
• This facility will be offered only once.

WBJEE 2014 Notification

The WBJEE 2014 Online Application Form is available from today December 18, 2013 to January 20, 2014. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for the West Bengal JEE Examination 2014.

WBJEE 2014 is theWest Bengal Joint Entrance Exam for admissions to the engineering courses in the state of West Bengal. Application Forms for the WBJEE 2014 are online and candidates have to submit the confirmation page after submission of the Online WBJEE 2014 Application Form. About WBJEE 2014: Conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board, The WBJEE 2014 is the entrance examination for admissions to various professional courses in various fields of Engineering/Architecture/Technology for various university and colleges in West Bengal.

WBJEE 2014 Eligibility Criteria:

• Candidates must have passed 10+2 from a recognized board with aminimum of 45% in aggregate inPhysics, Chemistry and Maths/Biology (40% for SC/ST)
  
• Candidates must also have obtained a minimum of 30% in English subject.
  
• Age Limit: Candidates must be 17 years or above by December 2013

For B.Tech/B.E Marine Engineering:

• Candidates must have obtained a minimum aggregate of 60% in Maths, Physics and Chemistry in 10+2 from a recognized board
  
• A minimum of 50% in Engish is mandatory either at the Class X level or Class XII level.
  
• Candidates must have passed individually in the subjects of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Vernacular and English.

WBJEE 2014 Paper Pattern:

The Exam will comprise of three papers:

• Mathematics (100 marks),
  
• Physics (50 marks)
  
• Chemistry (50 Marks).

Total Marks: 200
Question type:

• MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) with 80% weight age
  
• Short answer Type Question with 20 % weight age.

Note: There will be a negative marking of 33.33 % in case of incorrect answer.

WBJEE 2014 Counselling Process:

The WBJEE 2014 Merit Rank will be announced soon after the declaration of the results. The counselling for WBJEE 2014 will be conducted in three phases- First, Second and Third. The phases of counselling depend on the number of meritorious students and the availability of the seats.

A fourth round may be conducted if seats are available after the deemed three rounds of WBJEE Counselling are concluded.

Infosys to hire around 16,000 engineers next year: Murthy

PTI  Mumbai, December 18, 2013

India's second largest software services firm Infosys will hire up to 16,000 engineers next year, the company's chairman NR Naryana Murthy said on Tuesday.

"We have already started the hiring process for next year. We will be hiring around 15,000-16,000 engineers for next year and are already in process," Murthy said at an event in Mumbai.
With improving demand for outsourcing services in the US and European markets, which account for over 80% of the revenues of the $108 billion Indian IT sector, hiring is expected to be better than the last few years.

Speaking on a range of issues, Murthy said that people in the country needs to take more definitive steps towards development.
"India is a country of empty words, not action. Only repeating, 'Mera Bharat Mahaan' won't help. Learn to finish the race first in order to finish first," Murthy reiterated.
He encouraged students to be open to new ideas and not be cynical. "Move from apathy to action. Aim at becoming better than me. Luck will favour those who are prepared." Talking about the economic environment in the country, he said it is going to change going forward.
"As long as they (government) make businesses grow in the country, as long as we collect more taxes, as long as we use those taxes efficiently, I think the confidence will come back, every one will be very happy with whatever government is in the Centre and we will be better country," he said.
Murthy called upon educational authorities to concentrate on providing quality education. "Students are the future of this country. Quality software engineers will carve the way ahead for becoming a software global giant," he said.

On developing managerial skills, Murthy said it requires learning to understand other cultures, assimilating good values and being courteous.

Engineering colleges 'lure' students from Bihar with freebies

College managements which used to send their public relation teams to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are now trying to rope in students from Bihar in large numbers.

HYDERABAD: Many engineering colleges, which have lost out to varsities in other states in terms of annual intake of students owing to political uncertainty in the state, are now turning to Bihar to fill in their vacant seats.

College managements which used to send their public relation teams to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are now trying to rope in students from Bihar in large numbers. According to the data available with the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE), thousands of students from Bihar have taken admission in colleges in Andhra Pradesh in the past five years.

Figures reveal that since 2008, out of 27,930 students who joined engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh, 60 to 70% hailed from Bihar. Last year, over one lakh seats in engineering colleges across the state were lying vacant with just 1.30 lakh students coming forward to take admissions. This year, 13 out of the 609 private engineering colleges had no new admissions while less than 10 students took admission in 34 engineering colleges.

A representative of colleges admitted that some colleges have been trying to get students from other states in order to fill the vacant seats. However, students from other states should occupy only 5% of the total number of seats available in a college. "Some college representatives resort to dubious means such as using the local addresses of students in their records so they can fill their vacant seats to sidestep questions on nativity," a representative of a professional college managements' association said. The board which issues certificates declaring equivalence of 10+2 grades obtained by students from other state boards, had allowed 6,000 students across the country to take admission in state engineering colleges this year, out of which over 3,080 hailed from Bihar.

Engineering colleges have been drawing students from Maharastra, Jammu and Kashmir and Mizoram apart from Nepal and the Gulf countries.

Interestingly, sources said that these students have been admitted in engineering colleges for a fee less than the convener quota fee of Rs 35,000. "Students were lured to get fee reimbursement scheme funds from the state government. There is no record on whether these students are still studying in the state, even as colleges mint money using their names," said P Madhusudan Reddy of Government Junior College Lecturers Association, a body which has already brought the issue to the notice of the state government.

Observers said that marketing manuals of colleges promise free accommodation in college hostels for students from Bihar. Sources said, in some cases, students are even offered laptops and gadget
