Students of K J Somaiya Engineering college unveil Red Shift Car (RSR-13)

Students of Somaiya engineering college unveiled their all terrain vehicle RSR-13- capable of travelling on any kind of terrain such as military areas, mountainous areas, agricultural fields, etc. RSR-13 is a single-seater four wheeler drive that runs on petrol using a 305cc engine will also be participating in a national level intercollegiate design competition – BAJA Racing Competition organised by Society of Automotive Engineers.

After 3 months of inspection NIT-Calicut suspends four students in charge of ragging

Reportedly three months before ragging report was submitted by an inquiry committee of institute. After 3 months the director of the National Institute of Technology on January 25, Dr M.N.Bandyopadhyay, finally signed the suspension order of four students.
The delay was unusual on the campus, which is otherwise known for devising strict measures against ragging, said NIT sources. The inquiry committee found that the four students against whom the allegations were levelled had violated Section 6 of the Students Conduct and Disciplinary Code 2007, of the institute.
Following the recommendations of the committee, K. Vamsi Mohan and P. Pradeep Kumar have been suspended for two semesters, B. Sai Kiran Rao for one semester and Pannars Hareesh has been given a two-month suspension. The students are not to enter the hostels or campus during the period.
As per report submitted by committee a bunch of first year students were subjected to serial-ragging by second year students in the hostel, on the campus and cricket ground for several days. Both the victims and the perpetrators were students from Andhra Pradesh. On receiving complaints from first year students, an inquiry committee was formed to look into the issue immediately.

Task force set to discuss one more fee hike at IITs

Reportedly on saturday task force will meet to discuss one more fee hike to raise to raise per-capita operational costs from students. A new panel including members IIT Bombay chairman Anil Kakodkar, IIT Madras chairman M.M. Sharma, IIT Bombay director Devang Khakhar, IIT Guwahati director Gautam Barua and IIT Madras faculty Ashok Jhunjhunwala will also consider an alternative education loan scheme without involving banks. The aim is to ensure soft loans for needy students.

Ealier IIT concil approved 90% increase in annual fee for General candidates, the yearly tuition fee for BTech students increased to Rs 90,000 from Rs 50,000 from the 2013 academic session. The 80 per cent hike still left 60 per cent of the operational cost uncovered.
A source said the plan was to revisit the revised fee structure and suggest a framework on how to raise the per-capita operational cost from eligible students.
The fee hike, if approved by the IIT council, will affect about 50 per cent of students. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students and those from the economically weaker sections who don’t have to pay tuition fees now will continue to get the benefit.

IIT Hyderabad Placement statistics

In terms of academics, Indian institute of technology-Hyderabad is ahead of others new IITs, said director U B Desai. IIT hyderabad established in August-2008, initially it was dependent on IIT, Madras, for its premises and the teaching of its first batch of 167 students.

Placement officials said 50 companies, including Microsoft, Amazon, TCS, HP, ONGC and Mahindra & Mahindra, visited the campus. While Works Applications of Japan offered the highest annual pay packet of Rs 35 lakh, the highest salary offered by a domestic company was Rs 20 lakh. A student who applied on his own to Google for a job in California was recruited at a salary of Rs 50 lakh (all salaries are cost to company and include allowances). The campus placement for the class of 2013, with 168 students, has started and 50 of them received offers to join from companies like Morgan Stanley, PayPal, Dell, Mercedes Benz, Google and Flipkart. So far, the highest salary offered is Rs 35 lakh a year.

Two students of IIT Ropar bags package of 57 LPA from US based EPIC

Reportedly US based Epic has offered annual package of $105,000 to two IIT Ropar student of class 2012. Currently IIT Ropar offers courses in computer science and engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering.
Reportely compared to last year, placement this year has been a little easier and better in terms of salary package offered and more students getting placed. The number of companies has increased with new ones coming to the campus. Of 100 students studying in IIT Ropar in the final year, 12 have pre-placement job offers

JEE Main 2013 Online mode – Selection of exam slot will start from 1st Feb

PUBLIC NOTICE ISSUED BY CBSE
All the aspirants of JEE(Main)-2013 computer based examination (online) are informed that selection of slots/dates for Examination will be available on the website i.e. www.jeemain.nic.in during 01.02.2013 to 15.02.2013.
This option is available for the candidates whose status of application in the website of JEE(Main) is shown as ‘received/received with discrepancy’ and who have opted for computer based examination (online) for Paper-I.
The allotment of slots will be on first come first served basis. If a candidate does not make any selection by 15th February, 2013, he/she shall be randomly assigned a slot/date based on the availability of the same. It is further informed that the request regarding change in slot/date, for whatsoever reason, shall not be entertained by the Board at any cost.
