Reportedly three months before ragging report was submitted by an inquiry committee of institute. After 3 months the director of the National Institute of Technology on January 25, Dr M.N.Bandyopadhyay, finally signed the suspension order of four students.
The delay was unusual on the campus, which is otherwise known for devising strict measures against ragging, said NIT sources. The inquiry committee found that the four students against whom the allegations were levelled had violated Section 6 of the Students Conduct and Disciplinary Code 2007, of the institute.
Following the recommendations of the committee, K. Vamsi Mohan and P. Pradeep Kumar have been suspended for two semesters, B. Sai Kiran Rao for one semester and Pannars Hareesh has been given a two-month suspension. The students are not to enter the hostels or campus during the period.
As per report submitted by committee a bunch of first year students were subjected to serial-ragging by second year students in the hostel, on the campus and cricket ground for several days. Both the victims and the perpetrators were students from Andhra Pradesh. On receiving complaints from first year students, an inquiry committee was formed to look into the issue immediately.
