Reportedly 14 Lakh have registered for JEE Main exam this year. This is highest number of candidates for any exam conducted by CBSE . This year CBSE is going to conduct JEE Main 2013, common entrance test for candidates aspiring for admissions to BE, BTech and architecture courses at National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Delhi Technological University, and other centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs).
Last year around 11.2 lakh candidates registered for the AIEEE. Till 2012 AIEEE and IIT JEE were two separate entrance test but from 2013 based on direction from the ministry of human resource development it was decided to replace both of them by JEE Main and JEE Advanced. According to the JEE Apex Board decision the merit list for admission to NITs, IIITs, DTU, Delhi and other CFTIs will be prepared by giving 40% weightage (suitably normalised) to class XII (or equivalent examination) or other qualifying examination marks and 60% to the performance in JEE (main) examination.
