Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Patna, has called for applications from eligible candidates for the Ph.D programme in the departments of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and also Mechanical Engineering. The enrolment would be done for the session of December 2014. Eligible and interested candidates must apply online on and before October 27, 2014; and the last date for receiving offline application forms is October 31, 2014.
Eligibility for each course
Ph.D in Engineering:
- Candidates applying for this course, must have an M.Tech./M.E. degree in engineering/ technology, with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60 per cent marks
- Or a bachelor’s degree in engineering/ technology (from any Institute other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75 per cent marks
- Or bachelor’s degree from an IIT in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
- Or master’s degree in science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70 per cent.
Ph.D in Science:
- Candidates applying for this course must have an M. Phil.
- Or master’s degree in science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60 per cent of marks
- Or bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology from an IIT in relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
- Or bachelor’s degree in a related area in engineering/technology (from any Institute other than IITs/IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75 per cent of marks.
Ph.D in Humanities and Social Sciences:
- Candidates applying for these courses must have an M. Phil.
- Or master’s degree in Arts/Commerce/Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55 per cent marks
- Or equivalent
- Or Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60 per cent marks
- Or bachelor’s degree from IIT in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
- Or bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology (from any Institute other than IITs/IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 80 per cent marks.
Eligibility Relaxation for candidates under SC /ST Categories
Eligibility criteria would be relaxed by 5 per cent marks or 0.5 CPI for applicants under the reserved categories of SC/ST.
Selection Procedure
Candidates would be shortlisted for a written test or/ and personal interview based on their performance in GATE/NET, grades or marks in the qualifying examination.

After completing the form, a final PDF would be generated which applicants need to send along with self-attested copies of mark sheets, certificates and other relevant documents and a demand draft for the application fee to the following address:
