How to select best branch in engineering?

I bet this is the most asked question, obviously after “wtf?”

So, you’ve just cleared your twelfth and have no idea about which way to go to. Well, yea you’re in a situation, but hey, why’s 100marks here then? We’ll escort you to the right path.
No matter who or what pushes you to pursue engineering, the biggest dilemma arises when you’ve to choose what you are going to study for the next 4 years of your life, which is kind of a huge responsibility, but it’s your life, you’ve got to make it large.
First things first, let’s have the moment of truth, there’s no such thing as “best branch”. It can be hard for some people to digest, but it’s true that different branches of engineering are specialized in different field of applications. So, every one of them is best. You can’t say Computer Science is better than Electronics, because then, the one who makes a computer becomes inferior to the one who uses it, which’s kind of illogical. Neither is the other way round true, as, it is because of computer science that you can analyze anything digitally, thus making everything more efficient. Similar is the case with all the other branches.
But the question still persists, which way should you go to?
Before choosing any branch you must consider answering the following questions, honestly.
  • Do I really want to pursue engineering?
  • What excites me more? Codes/Circuits/Industries/Buildings/Chemical reactions, etc.
  • Did I answer the above questions honestly?
Remember to answer them very honestly, not from the point of view of your wallet, but your heart. We all know that there’s a great explosion in the CS/IT sector, and there are large amount of jobs for the deserving, but truth be told, I’ve seen hell lot of people, with non-CS/IT branches, earning more than these folks, Now, since the monetary point of view has been eliminated, give the field of applications, ample amount of time to think from, observe anything and everything around you. As with all the matters of heart, you’ll know when you find it what excites you more.
If the answers to the 3 questions are: Yes, <field chosen>, and, Yes, then congratulations, you’re a budding engineer, and the branch, corresponding to the field you’ve selected, is the “best branch” now, and if the answer to the 1st question is “No”, then don’t worry, observe everything, pursue what excites you, and do not succumb to the pressure from other people, remember, they cannot return your 4 years, so, choose wisely.

P.S – Remember what Steve said? “Do what you love. Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish.”
