25% seats in IITs will be reserve for students from economically weaker section.

Reportedly from coming academic year IITs are going to increase annual fee for undergraduate programmes by 80 per cent – Rs.50,000 per annum to Rs.90,000 per annum. The fee hike is applicable for all students belonging to General category, no fee hike for SC/ST/OBC candidates.

Amid the hike in university fee, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is mulling to provide 25 percent reservation to the students belonging to economically weaker section.
The premier institute is likely to reserve 25 percent seats for those students whose family’s annual income is not more than Rupees 4.5 lakh. The IIT will initiate new scholarship for the students to compensate for the tuition and other fee.
However, IIT council has not approved the proposal yet. The recommendations to provide scholarship have been made by Kakodkar Committee to IIT Council.
