A Centre of Excellence for Embedded Product Development was launched at the Netaji Subash Institute of Technology (NSIT), Delhi by Texas Instruments (TI) on Tuesday. This is the first centre of excellence, the TI has set up in any educational institution in India. Professor P V Indiresan, former director, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, inaugurated the centre.
The centre will promote design of embedded products based on TI's semiconductors. It will also promote design of educational solutions for teaching subjects on embedded systems and conduct educational activities such as seminars and train-the-trainer workshops that will be open to teachers from other engineering colleges as well. C P Ravikumar, technical director - university relations, TI India and Dhananjay Gadre, professor of electronics and communication engineering, NSIT will coordinate the working of the centre.
Indiresan in his address said: "One must question theories, only then can one become a good scientist." He also released a book titled ' Microcontroller Projects for the Evil Genius', co-authored by an NSIT alumnus.
TI will donate the equipment, semiconductor tools and solutions to get the center started. Students of NSIT who work on product design activities at the centre will be offered internships.
"Our objective is to encourage and promote an ecosystem in the design of embedded products," said Ravikumar. "The centre will design products that are relevant to the Indian electronics industry and nurture talent in the area of embedded product design," he added.
