IIT-BHU's 'Kashiyatra' begins today

The four-day annual cultural fest of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), 'Kashiyatra 2013' will commence on Thursday. The general secretary, cultural wing, IIT-BHU, Chandra Prakash Sipani said this year's edition of Kashiyatra, to be held between January 24 and January 27, would witness the introductory edition of first-of-its-kind 'Run for a Cause Marathon' on January 27.

Dedicated to women and underprivileged children, the marathon will start from IIT Gymkhana and culminate at Bhelupur area. Children, students and local natives can participate in the marathon. Apart from this, a model United Nations (MUN) is also being introduced in the fest from this year. Noted poet Surendra Sharma and Arjun Shisodiya will be present in the Kavi Sammelan on Wednesday. A band called Rishi Inc would also perform in the fusion night which will be held on the same day. In addition, Indian Music competition, Rangbaazi (fine art event), skit, mime and mono acting will also be held on the first day of the fest.

The fest would witness a series of literary events including a creative writing competition on January 25. The much-awaited fashion show 'Mirage', and laser show and musical night will also be held on the occasion. Notably, the cultural wing has also decided to organise a street-painting (three dimensional) competition (Silly Street) which will be held on the same day near IIT Gymkhana. 'Antarnaad', another major event of the fest has been scheduled on January 27. According to Sipani, Delhi-based bank 'Eka' is expected to perform on the occasion.

Besides, there will be face-painting competition, debates, street plays, stage plays, painting competitions and several other events during the four-day cultural fest. Around 14 colleges including IIT Mumbai, IIT Gandhi Nagar, IIT Indore and 250 participants from various colleges are expected to arrive here on the occasion.
