Reportedly premier engineering colleges of India, IITs are planning to restart preparatory course for reserved category students who fail to cross the JEE Advanced cut off score this year. Under this preparatory course IITs will conduct a special coaching for reserved category students.
IITs are restarting this preparatory course beacuse this year less number of candiadates appeared as compared to IIT JEE 2012 and it is possible that reserved seats might left vacant if required number of candidates do not cross cut off. For quota students who fall short of the mark, the IITs generously reduce cut-offs and conduct special coaching for them for a year. The arrangement started in the mid-90s after the IITs wrote to the government for permission to run a year-long preparatory course, a bridge programme to help quota students lagging behind in the JEE.
