1.08 lakhs engineering seats left vacant after 1st round of counselling

Reportedly about 1.08 lakhs seats are still vacant after first round of EAMCET 2013 counselling.According to experts this is the clear indication that students are losing interest in technical education.
Total 609 private engineering colleges are participating in EAMCET 2013 counselling this year and about 13 colleges recorded zero admission after first round of counselling. A total of 2,19,296 seats are available in private engineering colleges in the state, while just 6,550 seats are available in 34 government engineering colleges.Most of the vacant seats are in private engineering colleges.
Most of the students chose Electronics and communication this year. 33,557 seats were filled in this stream. While computer science engineering had 24,523 takers and the mechanical stream had 24,036 takers.The engineering colleges which has less than 10 students after first counselling might not function from this year and already admitted students will have to shift to other colleges during second phase of counselling. Currently total number of colleges that have less than 10 number of students are 34.
