Council of NIT’s meet – Council prefers two options for normalization of 12th board marks

Reportedly Council of National Institutes of Technology, met at New Delhi to discuss on the normalisation criteria for 12th board marks, but the council could not come to a conclusion on the same and reportedly another meeting is scheduled next week to find out a solution for the same.
The normalisation criteria is very crucial , as MHRD’s new criteria for admission into NIT’s , IIIT’s and other centrally funded technical institutes carry a weightage of 40% to the normalised 12th board scores and reportedly MHRD setup a committee including experts from statistical institute, IIT Kanpur and CBSE to normalise the 12th board marks of various boards.
Two options of the options that were shown preference by the committee members are:
  1. transform the percentile scores of all boards on the basis of the aggregates of the marks in all subjects identically such that the new scores obtained have the same distribution as the JEE Main aggregates marks
  2.  ensure that the scores are transformed to have the same distribution as the JEE aggregates of students from the same board.
