Only 3 IITs come under top 100 universities in Asia, Japan takes asian crown with 22 universities listed

The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2013

The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2013 are out and only 3 universities were able to make a place in this list. IIT-Kharagpur is ranked 30th, IIT-Bombay is 33rd and IIT-Roorkee 56th. Japan secured 1st position with 22 universities listed under top 100.
The universities are ranked based on 13 performance indicators in teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
IITs are top universities in India, but many institutes in other country have done much better than IITs.
Individually, the three IITs have done relatively well on industry income or innovation, and have secured moderate scores in the teaching and research parameters. All three have secured low scores in terms of international outlook, with none securing more than 20 points.

Countrywise position

Japan – 1st rank with 22 universities
Taiwan – 2nd rank with 17 universities,
China – 3rd rank with 15 universities
Korea – 4th rank with 14 universities
