Reportedly around 1.1 lakh out of the 12.5 lakh students who competed for about 10,000 NIT seats from across the country filled inaccurate details of their board name, roll numbers or even their own names in their application forms for the Joint Entrance Examination-Main (JEE-Main) 2013.
There are total 29 boards across the country and all other boards are sharing personal details of their students with CBSE as CBSE has to give 40 per cent weightage to the XII board marks while preparing the final merit list for jee main 2013.
Final merit list jee main 2013 will be based on 60% JEE Main score and 40% XII board score.
“Many students have given wrong details like wrong roll numbers of their boards, or misspelt names or given the incorrect name of their boards. We are matching these details with the personal details furnished by the boards. In case of any discrepancy, we are calling the students and correcting it,” told a top CBSE official.
“Some students have mentioned names of boards like Delhi School Board or Central School Board. After verification, we found these students have been issued certificates by some fake boards. Such boards are operating illegally. The matter has been taken up with Delhi police,” the official said.
