The online Joint Engineering Entrance Examination (JEE) mains - 2013 began on Tuesday. The exam to be held on four dates - April 9, 22, 23 and 25 -- saw around 1,500 candidates appearing for the test on day one in Lucknow. Nearly 1.75 lakh candidates will appear for the computer-based-test on all four days in 25 cities. As seen in the offline exam (held on April 7), candidates found physics paper tougher than chemistry and mathematics.
Though there are 13 examination centres in the city, the exam on Tuesday was held in only nine centres. And since all candidates had registered for the morning shift, 9am to12 noon no examination was held in the evening shift, i.e, 2pm to 5pm.
No technical snag was reported at any of the nine centres which included BBD Northern Institute of Technology and Management, LBS Institute of Management and Development Studies, Shri Ram Swaroop Memorial College of Engineering and Management, Goel Institute of Technology and Management, Ambalika Institute of Management and Technology, SMS Institute of Technology, Surya School of Planning and Engineering Management, BN College of Engineering and Technology, and Globe Institute of Management.
"Questions based on mechanics and electro-dynamics were tricky and took sometime. The paper was based on concepts rather than memory. Physics numerical were not difficult. Questions in chemistry and mathematics made the paper comfortable,'' said Sandeep, a candidate.
The exam is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). CBSE coordinator, Lucknow Jawaid Alam Khan said, "according to the feedback, no technical snags were reported. Candidates found problem in locating the centre as many were in the interiors of the city though most of them reached the venue by 8 am.''
