Indraprastha University offers online counselling for BTech, BBA programmes

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) is offering online counselling facility to students seeking admission in BTech and BBA programmes.

"BTech and BBA are popular courses with several seats on offer. There are significant changes taking place in technology and we are trying to keep up. The online counselling has been initiated as it is convenient for students and will aid in eliminating human error," says DK Bandyopadhyay, vice-chancellor , GGSIPU.

The BTech and BBE programmes have around 6,500 seats and 5,400 seats respectively. Explaining how the system will work, Bandyopadhyay says that students will first fill in their details in an OMR sheet. They will indicate their college and course preference on it. Students will then be sorted on the basis of an eligibility criterion, following which the information will be fed into a database.

"Each college under GGSIPU has a fixed number of seats. When students go to individual colleges to fill in the OMR form, they will fill in their details, which will be fed into the master list by all affiliated colleges. The list will be displayed on the college website, www.ggsipu.nic.in. Once students qualify for a certain course, the seat will be blocked.

A window will be opened in individual colleges, for around a week, where students have to physically go with all relevant documents for registration. Blocking a seat alone is not enough, one has to pay the fee for admission to be finalised.

This process will be on till all the seats in the BTech and BBA course are full. The online counselling is likely to start in the first week of June and students are advised to track the website.
