A state-wide bandh called by the Opposition on April 9 to protest the power tariff hike is making students and parents nervous. Students are scheduled to appear for the JEE (Main) in online mode on April 9 in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.
JEE (Main) replaced AIEEE from this year for admission to NITs, IIITs and other Central-funded technical institutions. It is also the gateway for eligibility to appear for JEE (Advanced), for admissions to IITs, which replaced IIT-JEE.
JEE aspirants want bandh rescheduled
The main Opposition parties — Telugu Desam, YSR Congress, BJP and Telangana Rashtra Samiti — are supporting the bandh called by the Left parties on April 9 to protest the recent power tariff hike by the state government. The Chief Minister’s announcement of partial relief from the power tariff hike on Thursday has failed to pacify the Opposition parties.
Nearly 1.5 lakh students from the state have registered for Joint Entrance Examination (Main) this year. About 1.3 lakh have opted for the offline exam being held on April 7 in centres in Guntur, Khammam, Warangal and Tirupati. The remaining 20,000 have opted for the online mode of exams to be held from April 8 to 25. These students will be affected by the bandh on April 9.
“We request political parties to either call off the bandh or reschedule it in the wake of the all-important JEE (Main) on April 9,” said Kondal Rao, a senior lecturer and JEE trainer.
“Since it’s a national-level exam, it would be tough for the CBSE to reschedule it. The political parties should come forward to protect the interests of our students. If any untoward incidents occur on that day, our students will lose the opportunity to secure seats in some of the best technical institutions of the country like IITs, NITs, IIITs etc. We are hoping for a positive response from the opposition parties.”
Parents and students are upset at the way bandhs are called in total disregard of the hardship they cause.
