BITS Pilani wish to be amongst the top three tech-institutes in India by 2015

Everyone knows about the Birla Institute of Technology & Science, BITS Pilani. BITS Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education, rank-1 private institute for engineering across the country. BITS Pilani vice chancellor Bijendra Nath Jain wish to be listed amongst the top three tech-institutes in India by 2015-16 and amongst the top 25 in Asia by 2020-21.
Steps taken by BITS Pilani to achieve this goal:
1. BITS has recently made offers to three faculty members who are of German, Italian and Romanian origin and they plan to do more in this respect.
2. Regarding recruiting foreign students, we have approached the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh to allow us to hold the BITSAT entrance exam in Dhaka and thus recruit their students, shares Bijendra Nath Jain. To avoid distortions in academic standards, we would not wish to recruit foreign students using a process other than the one we use for Indians. Among many other initiatives, we run a summer/winter school in Global Health in collaboration with faculty from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York for Indian and American students.
BITS mission is to advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology, and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century.
The Institute is committed to generating, disseminating, and preserving knowledge, and to working with others to bring this knowledge to bear on the world’s great challenges. BITS is dedicated to providing its students with an education that combines rigorous academic study and the excitement of discovery with the support and intellectual stimulation of a diverse campus community. We seek to develop in each member of the BITS community the ability and passion to work wisely, creatively, and effectively for the betterment of humankind.
BITS Pilani is a university that is primarily focused on teaching and learning and it consider research to be an important part of its agenda.
