A large number of students from Bhopal have joined and signed the petition opposing the normalization process introduced in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The normalization of class XII marks, a new formula introduced by the CBSE in the admission process admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other Central government aided technical educational institutions, has led to confusion as several students who scored high rank in JEE mains failed to make the cut.
JEE rankings are based on two parts, first JEE main marks (60%) and second, board Marks (40 %).
Supreme Court is likely to take up a case on Thursday.
Kshitij Grag, 25, a pass out from BITS Pilani who had launched an online petition to mobilize countrywide support against the CBSE decision, said the problem lies with the second component (40% board's weightage of 144 marks out of the total 360).
The students of Bhopal and from all across Madhya Pradesh have also supported his petition.
Speaking to TOI Kshitij said, "We are going to challenge the transfer of the case to Supreme Court. We want the case to continue in the Andhra Pradesh high court where it was going on for the past two weeks."
However, the CBSE insisted for transferring the case to the apex court.
Ekaansh Mathur, an aspirant and student of MP Board who couldn't make it because of the "skewed" weightage system said "We are taking help from Kshitij".
Kshitij helps the students with their petitions and also appears in the court hearings. Many students from Bhopal are also taking help and guidance from him reaching him through the petition page created online and Facebook page.
Vidit Jain (18) a student of MP board who scored 200 marks out of 360 in JEE mains is shocked because of a low rank he has received despite high score in entrance examination. He didn't even appear for PET because he was certain about making it to NIT but now but the normalization process has shut all doors for him.
