TNEA 2013 Counselling for Sports Quota on hold

The TNEA 2013 Counselling for Sports Quota has been put on hold as per the Madras High court ruling on June 18, 2013. The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court directed Anna University not to finalize the results of the single window counselling for the Sport Quota of the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA 2013) until further orders.
The ruling came after a petition was filed by S Saranya from Srivilliputhur, a national level throw ball player whose application was rejected on the grounds that throw ball is not recognised by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). In her petition, the petitioner pointed out that she was eligible for the admissions as per the guidelines of the university which mentions throw ball in the schedule of sports recognized. The petitioner further stated that she had fulfilled all the guidelines and submitted the requisite certificates as proof of her sports credentials.
Justice Manikumar passed the interim orders directing the Anna University Registrar, Higher Education Principal Secretary and TNEA Secretary to allot the petitioner marks and allow her to participate in the counselling under the sports quota.
