On wednesday Nobel laureate Jean-Marie Lehn was present in the Vellore Institute of Technology campus . He interacted with faculty and students of VIT and adviced them to keep an open mind. Lehn won the Nobel Prize in 1987 for his work in chemistry.
“You should do what you love. India has very good scientists. Science needs brains and equipment. Science and technology help the development of the nation and you have to ask your government to provide better equipment,” said the Lehn.
When the students questioned him on the existence of god, he said he did not want to give a name to something he did not know. “I try to understand things rather giving names to the unknown. Science makes you understand reality,” he said, adding that one must try to accumulate knowledge and work hard.
“One of my colleagues once said that if the result of experiments is predicted, it is called measurement but when the result is not what you predicted, it’s called discovery. When you work on something, also look for unexpected and abnormal things,” he said.
