The state government has decided that while making the final merit list for engineering and other professional courses, it will stick to the old formula of giving 60 per cent weightage to the marks scored in science subjects in the HSC board examination, while only 40 per cent weightage will be given to the All India Joint Entrance Examination.
This was similar to the formula which the state had when Gujarat Common Entrance Test was in place. The state has recently decided to join the Joint Entrance Examination for admissions to engineering courses in colleges affiliated to GTU and deemed universities. As per the guidelines of the Union ministry of education, it was preferable if the state gives 50 per cent weightage while making merit list to JEE. But it had stated that the weightage to JEE should not be less than 40 per cent.
Minister of state for education Vasuben Trivedi said that following representation from parents and students, it was decided to give 40 per cent weightage to the JEE. The written examination will be on April 7 while the online examination will be held between April 8 and 25. JEE is compulsory for those who are seeking admissions in engineering colleges.
