After inspections by officials of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and Regional Transport Office (RTO), the Sahar police have now approached IIT-Powai's civil & structural department for a detailed probe into the recent mishap at the elevated Sahar road.
Additional commissioner of police (west) Vishwas Nangre Patil has appointed three sub-inspectors who have graduated in civil engineering to look into the case.
On Saturday, the cops approached IIT-Powai but failed to meet the person concerned as he is out of town. "We were informed that the person concerned will be back in Mumbai by next week. We are roping in IIT to find out the technical reason that led to the mishap. We have even assigned the case to three cops who are civil engineering graduates," Patil told TOI.
"This is the second mishap on the bridge that happened within six months. After studying the probe report, we will decide whether to add stringent sections in the FIR," he said.
Asked whether the cops have included the name of the institutions involved in the FIR, Patil said they have booked the engineer, supervisor and foreman for their negligence that cost the life of three workers and left six others injured.
"We have to go through the contract details. After studying the work contract letter, study reports from the FSL and the IIT-Powai, we will take legal experts' opinion before deciding whether to include the institution's name," Patil said.
Till late on Saturday, the police were at the spot to supervise the work to clear the debris and locate the missing labourer, Anilkumar Singh (25). Police suspect Singh may have got killed and his body trapped under the debris.
