IIT-Indore students develop technology for laptop and cellphones
Do you find your laptop or cellphone running slow and consuming more battery? If yes, then here are two students of Indian Institute of Technology, Indore (IIT-I), working on a technology that will allow users to store four times the data without slowing down the processor.
Sarfraz Qureshi and V Sai Kiran have developed Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) design that intends to make device run faster, increase capacity of data transfer, enhance memory density and reduce the power consumption to half. Unlike conventional memory system, the developed design will need fabrication in circuit architecture instead of transistor. "We have tested the project in our lab and it has given wonderful results. The project was also appreciated by the President who had a look of it while on his visit to the institute."
The project which started a year ago, is now in the final stage and the students are completing the procedure to file their application for patent in USA. Qureshi said, "We and our faculty have confirmed that such kind of work has not been done by anyone. We have completed the procedure to patenting the technology and we are going to file our application." V Sai Kiran helped build the design. They were assisted by two PhD scholars Chandrabhan Kushwah and Bhupendra Singh Reniwal. The project was supervised by assistant professor Santosh Vishwakarma.
Elaborating more about the project, Qureshi said, "I and Kiran got the idea of developing the design while we were interning. We both discussed the idea with the faculty. We did not spend much in developing the design. The institute has developed digital lab which has licensed circuit designing software. We worked on it and literally spent nothing to develop design. We are thankful to the faculty that gave us flexibility to work on the topic," said Qureshi. He intends to study further instead of joining job in the industry and conduct research in the field of physics.
