Shaolin monks to perform at IIT-Bombay's Mood Indigo

Last year's Mood Indigo, too, saw performances by artistes from other countries.

The benchmark has been upped, targets set, and campaigns ready. Mood Indigo, IIT-Bombay’s cultural festival, is looking forward to break its own Limca record of having the maximum number of international artists at a cultural festival.

Students at IIT-B have revealed the theme for this year’s Mood Indigo, which will be held in December.

The theme — Oriental Quest — will be a celebration of eastern cultures in a country obsessed with western influences.

Mayuresh Patole, ambience and design head for the festival says, “We will explore designs from Japan, Korea and ancient China in addition to installing familiar eastern elements like lanterns, flags, dragon, Japanese-styled roofs and bamboo art.” Oriental music, gongs and traditional beats will be played at venues across campus.

The overall coordinator of the fest Vishesh Sharma said, “We spoke to various foreign exchange students who stayed in the campus and were from these countries to get deeper insights. International artists who had come last year were contacted as well.

We’re doing everything possible to bring out the actual culture of the East and break some notions via this theme.”

A team of Shaolin monks will perform in addition to a food festival and a Chinese football event called Cuju that is planned.

The college festival will begin on December 27.
