IIT Ropar Placements of the 2nd graduating batch (2009-2013)

We are extremely pleased to announce that the second placement season has been highly successful. Our graduates have been offered jobs in reputed companies such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft, eBay, Samsung, Cisco, Cognizant, Texas Instruments, ONGC, L & T, HPCL, Ericsson etc. The average salary across all branches is Rs. 10.70 lakhs per annum. The highest package offered in India is Rs. 17.45 lakhs per annum. The highest package offered overseas is US $ 1,25,000 per annum. Moreover, a number of our graduates are going for higher studies in reputed institutes such as Texas A & M University, TIFR and the IIMs. The statistics are a testament to the skills of the students that have been enhanced by our quality curriculum. We would like to congratulate all the graduating students and would like to wish them all the best.

IIT Ropar Placement News of the 1st graduating batch (2008-2012)

In a city which has no fast food chains such as Pizza Hut or McDonald’s, USbasedEpic offered $105,000 to two students of IIT Ropar’s class of 2012.The institute, with close to 500 students, functions out of Ropar’s defunctwomen’s polytechnic, converted into a transit campus.With students in B. Tech and Ph.D, the Ropar IIT offers courses in computerscience and engineering, mechanical engineering and electricalengineering. The director, M K Surappa, says an interdisciplinary approach isencouraged.”The institute has tied up with the PGIMER (Post Graduate Institute of MedicalEducation and Research) to pursue research in mechanism of bone fractionand healing and to develop prosthetic devices,” he said.A new set-upThe new institutes have an advantage of flexible minds as the young facultyhas quick adaptability, and the small scale makes decision-making easy. Butthere are hiccups like limited senior faculty to mentor research. Theadministrative staff needs to learn the functioning of IITs.The IIT campus would come up in an area of 500 acres in Ropar and shouldbe ready in two years. Student strength could go up by four times to 2000 witha faculty of 200. The faculty numbers 48 now with 12 more to join shortly.Training and Placement Officer Prabh Sharan Singh says compared to lastyear, placement this year has been a little easier and better (in terms ofsalary package offered and more students getting placed). It is mainlybecause the recruiters’ size this year has been more compared to last year.Last year, when the first batch graduated from IIT Ropar (classescommenced in 2008), the placement stood at 87 per cent.The number of companies has increased with new ones coming to thecampus. Of 100 students studying in IIT Ropar in the final year, 12 have preplacementjob offers.StudentsSiddarth, an electrical engineering student, recruited by Flipkart, says hechose IIT Ropar over BITS Pilani.Shashank and Navneet, waiting to be interviewed by recruiters, say choosinga new IIT works as an average student has a chance of proving himself sincethe pressure is less.”Studying in an established IIT doesn’t let an average student make a markbut new IITs give an average student a chance to make a identity for himself.”
