JEE now easier to crack for state board students
Cracking the Joint Engineering Entrance (JEE) for students from Assam Higher Secondary Council (Ahsec) and Secondary Education Board of Assam (Seba) has now become easier as the syllabus, particularly for math and science, is at par with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which also holds the JEE.
The chairman of the council, Moshin Ali, said, "In the previous years, students from our board faced problems while preparing for JEE because the syllabus was different from the CBSE, particularly science and math. Also, there were no prescribed textbooks for classes XI and XII and the students read books written by different writers. As a result, there were certain topics included in the Seba syllabus, which were not included in the CBSE syllabus and vice versa."
To help students belonging to Ahsec and Seba to crack JEE without any difficulty, the council from last year adopted the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks, particularly for science and math, he added.
Moreover, the human resource development ministry has instructed the Council of Boards of School Education in India to adopt a common design for question papers all over the country, especially for physics, chemistry, math and biology as this will make it easier to students to crack competitive exams. "From this year onwards, the AIEEE will be replaced by JEE (main) and JEE (advanced) and for the first time, importance will be given to class XII results while preparing the merit list," he added.
The regional head of CBSE, Guwahati, KK Choudhury said, "The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) and IIT-JEE were separate exams till 2012. But based on direction from the ministry of human resource development and following consultation, it was decided that from now on admissions to engineering and architecture courses will be based on JEE (main) and (advanced). JEE (advanced) will replace IIT-JEE and will be conducted by the IITs; only the top 1.5 lakh candidates of the JEE (main) merit list will be eligible to sit for JEE (advanced)."
"I have observed that Seba students perform better in JEE exams because they have broader knowledge of advanced mathematics. The CBSE students have to take separate classes for advanced mathematics. Since the pattern has changed from this year, let's see if the students can cope up with the JEE (mains) and JEE (advanced) exams or not," said the HR of impact, Jonali Talukdar.
