Science graduates with mathematics as a subject in class XII can now join second-year undergraduate engineering courses without writing CET. However, they must clear engineering graphics or engineering drawing and engineering mechanics of the first-year BE syllabus along with the second-year subjects.
Higher education minister CT Ravi on Tuesday announced that lateral entry into engineering courses for BSc holders will be made possible from 2013-14. A science graduate with 45% marks is eligible for lateral entry into a second-year engineering course. Introduced by the AICTE in 2011, the system is yet to be implemented in Karnataka. It was earlier restricted to diploma students.
