Class 12th exam to end a day before JEE

The aspirants of JEE (main) and their parents are a worried lot following the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) rescheduling the Plus II practical examination. The students will not get enough time to reach Rourkela, the only offline centre in the state for the JEE (main) to appear in the examination on April 7, if their practical examinations end on April 6.

The CHSE has extended the date of practical examination to April 6 following the rescheduled examination of physics and chemistry on March 25 and 30 respectively. Earlier, the practical examination was scheduled between March 22 and 31. "It is impossible to reach Rourkela, so far away, to appear in JEE (Main) after our practical examinations," said a group of students of Khallikote Junior College. "We will also not get any time to prepare for JEE," added some students of SB Rath Government Womens' College here.

Educationist Sudhir Kumar Rout has urged chief minister Naveen Patnaik to intervene in the matter and direct CHSE to alter the practical examination plan, he said. Around 50,000 students from the state will appear in JEE (Main).

Deputy secretary of CHSE, Berhampur zone, S N Sahu, said the council has entrusted colleges to conduct their practical examinations according to their convenience during the scheduled period. The JEE (main) aspirants will not be affected if colleges conduct the practical examination before April 6.

Students appear in JEE (Main) for admission into undergraduate engineering programmes in NIT, IITs and other centre-funded national institutions.
