The days of entrance exams are here again and a new set of Plus Two students are ready to appear for it. And the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is among the all important entrance exams. The offline JEE-Main is scheduled for April 7 while the online test will be held from April 8 to April 25. JEE-Main replaces the former AIEEE. This year a record 14 lakh students have enrolled for the exam.
Experts say two years of organised and dedicated preparation is the key to success along with speed and accuracy in the exam hall. Attempting mock tests is also important. With just a month left for the exam, what do students need to do to get that extra mileage?
According to a general analysis, about 25% questions in the examination paper are easy, 50% are average and 25% difficult. It is better to attempt theoretical questions first and then questions which require calculation.
The most important requirement for cracking JEE is clarity of concepts and regular practice in problem solving. The examination is not difficult, but tricky, and hence different tactics are needed for each question. Both speed and strike rate matter.
Ramesh Batlish, senior Mathematics faculty and career expert with prominent coaching firm FIITJEE, says students need to approach every set of problems differently and with separate methodologies. “You need to be quick and accurate to achieve high scores. High speed with less accuracy can actually ruin your results.
While preparation counts, of importance also is selecting your questions wisely and not panicking while attempting the paper. If you solve easy and average questions correctly, you can easily get through,” says Ramesh. Amogh and Sohail, students from Bhavan’s Elamakkara and Bhavan’s Varuna respectively, said JEE-Main is not giving them tense moments though the exam is new.
“We are doing mock tests and gaining confidence,” they said. “Since board exam marks are also being taken into consideration for preparing the JEE Main ranklist, we are keen on scoring well in board exams too,” said Sohail.
