Computer engineering – the scope of this field has always been high and is still growing. Almost all the engineering colleges including all the IITs, NITs, state universities and private engineering colleges offer computer science as one of the core streams. It simply overwhelms you with opportunities and till date offers one of the most high-paying jobs.
The various areas which a computer graduate could venture into does not limit to programming but creates various prospects in hardware and software development, web-development, Computer Support Specialist ,Computer Systems Analyst ,Computer Systems Designer, Database Administrator, Network Administrator and much more.
Today, most of us find ourselves pondering over a few words which are ‘The Slowdown in India’s IT sector’. Not to deny, it has become a major concern for the fresh graduates as several big names have delayed the joining dates of new hires as part of a cost cutting exercise but have not denied them a job at the same time which implies that jobs are being created. Another factor that fills us with optimism is the current Indian scenario on the technological front. India is a technologically advancing country. Research says that employment of computer engineers is projected to increase by 38 percent over the 2006 to 2016 period, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. This occupation will generate about 324,000 new jobs.
In most of the engineering colleges the mass recruiters are generally the IT firms who not only absorb the CS/IT students but the students of other fields as well and then train them further. This in itself gives an idea of the demand that exists in today’s world. Every year, the big IT firms in India recruit around 400-700 students from various engineering colleges and offer an average salary package of 3-5 lpa. Some of the big IT firms are Google, Microsoft, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Accenture, Yahoo, Amazon, IBM, Facebook, Oracle, Cisco etc. Besides these there are several governmental organizations like DRDL, ISRO, ECIL and BEL which offer jobs to computer science students.
Considering all these factors together we can conclude that CS/IT is one of the sectors that can never reach saturation and thus can be considered as a positive ray of hope.
