JEE main and Advanced will switch to online mode from 2014

Reportedly the ministry of human resource devlopement and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are planning to switch to online mode completely for the Joint entrance exam from academic year 2014. Currently JEE main is conducted by CBSE in both online and offline mode while IITs will conduct JEE Advanced in offline mode only, but from 2014 both exams will be conducted in online mode only.

HRD and the CBSE are already exploring options of companies that can audit their preparation level to switch from paper pencil format to computer based format. This initiative is being supported by the HRD minister MM Pallam Raju.
This audit will verify 300 identified centres across 28 Indian cities and Singapore, Kathmandu and Colombo, where computerised tests are planned. The auditors will check the infrastructure CCTV surveillance, power backup, 20% additional desktops, standby servers, air-conditioning and access control measures at each of these test centres. They will also evaluate the software security and confirm whether thorough security arrangements to prevent question paper leaks are in place. The plan is to upload question papers on a central server and then issue passwords for access to the server to officials in charge of centres through a text message in the morning of the examination.
