In today’s fast growing world, dual degrees seem to be in trend among the youngsters with a majority of them aiming to hit two birds with one stone.
As the name suggests, a dual degree program is one which requires a single course of study but two degrees are awarded in the consolidated time period. It involves a person getting a Bachelors and a Masters in the same program but in a shorter time frame. The B.Tech-M.Tech dual degree requires 5 years of education but if these courses were to be taken up individually, they would require 6 years of education.
This dual degree concept influenced by foreign education system was introduced in India by the Indian Institute of Technology with the main aim to make students more research savvy.
ADVANTAGES
The advantages of the dual degree program are numerous. It not just allows students to complete both the degrees faster but also costs them less. There is great scope of getting into research and the students can do collaborative projects under foreign universities. They can also apply directly for PhD after completion of the course.
CHALLENGES
Taking up dual degree program is no cake walk. It is a challenge to devote adequate time and meet the academic requirement of both the degrees in an accelerated time frame. But if you are up for the challenge then there’s nothing like it!
