Reportedly HRD ministry will do a detailed analysis of JEE 2013 result to check whether the main purpose behind this change have been achieved or not. According to HRD minister pallam raju main goals behind this change were
1. To make it easier for children from rural areas by giving weightage to school boards
2. To bring out more girl students in premier institutes of engineering. To achieve this goal ex. HRD minister Kapil sibal wanted to reduce dependency on coaching classes as mostly parents do not want to send their girl child outside for coachings
We will do a detail analysis, only after that we can reach on a conclusion that what happened in 2013 and should we follow this change in 2013 or not.
This year two biggest engineering entrance examinations of country AIEEE and IIT JEE were merge into one JEE 2013. This year IIT entrance was a two step process, JEE advanced followed by JEE Main. For admission to NITs, CFTIS and other SFTIs 40% weightage was given to boards marks with 60% weightage to JEE Main score.
To bring out board element in IIT entrance, IITs denied to give weightage but they introduced a new eligibility criteria this year. Now a student must be under top 20 percentile in their respective boards to get admission in IITs. Because of this new eligibility criteria 79 students could not make it into IITs though they have good scores in JEE Advance 2013
