Depressed Telecom engineer tries to commit suicide in his office

NOIDA: A 32-year-old telecom engineer tried to commit suicide after consuming rat killer at his place of work in Sector 62 on Friday afternoon. The victim's condition is critical. Even as the victim's family has alleged that he took this extreme step due to work pressure, a company official denied it and said that he was depressed due to personal problems.

The family of the victim, identified as Pawan Kumar, said that his colleagues had told them that he was depressed over poor treatment by the management at the workplace. "His eight-year-old daughter is unwell for the last 15 days and he was not allowed to take leave. Apart from that, some senior officials had even threatened to ruin his career. Due to all this, he was depressed," said a colleague of the victim on the condition of anonymity.

"He had also written a mail to the human resources department of the company and alerted them that the working conditions are forcing him to commit suicide. But even the HR did not pay heed to it after which he decided to commit suicide," the colleague added.

"The victim is on the ventilator and his lungs are damaged. Doctors said he may not survive but efforts are on to revive him," said a family member.

Noida police claim to be investigating the case. "The matter has come to our notice. We are probing the case from all angles," said Vishwajeet Srivastav, deputy superintendent of police.

In another case, a man entered a garment factory in A-Block of Sector 10 on Thursday night and committed suicide on Friday morning. The moments of him entering the factory and committing suicide was captured by the CCTV cameras. The deceased has not been identified and police said prima facie it appears that he was mentally retarded.
