5 seats have been additionally added to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) by the HRD ministry only for this academic year (2013-14) to accommodate those students who had been denied admission to the B.Tech courses due to the software glitch by the CSABwhich was in charge of the admissions to the NITs and CFTIs.
These 95 candidates had secured better places in the merit list but were left out of the seat allotment for no fault of their own. The problem occurred due to the software programming during the third phase of the CSAB Counselling. As a result, the students were not allotted seats even though they were deserving and meritorious..
These seats have been specially created for this academic year only. The HRD minister M.M.Pallam Raju has exercised his powers to create these seats thus ensuring justice to the students who have lost the seats. The HRD ministry specified that these additional seats were purely supernumerary and temporary in nature to be valid for this academic session as a one time measure in its letter to the CSAB Chairman and NIT Rourkela director Sunil Kumar Sarangi.
