NIT Agartala students took candle light protest against shortage of doctors

According to sources on Sunday night students of NIT agartala took candle light protest, demanding appointment of a neurosurgeon in Agartala Government Medical college.
It’s very surprising that NIT students are demanding for neurosurgeon in government medical college, isn’t it?
Reportedly a second year B.Tech girl student Moutoshi Kar was admitted to Agartala Government Medical College in critical condition on last Thursday. He had fallen from a friend’s motorcycle in the city outskirt. Moutoshi died due to lack of expert medical care . The doctors attending her said she needed brain surgery immediately. As the hospital did not have a neurosurgeon, the girl’s family had to wait to take her to Kolkata. In the meantime, she succumbed to her injuries on Friday afternoon.
“Since Tripura does not have any neurosurgeon we had to wait a whole night. But on the next day, we could not manage seats on the Kolkata-bound plane. The family hired an aircraft from Kolkata. It came but could not land due to bad weather,” said Moutoshi’s friend Anayana Saha.
No doctor was there to start her treatment and she was left with only a saline drip for more than 24 hours.Moutoshi could have been survived if she had gone for surgery, he added.
Moutoshi’s friends alleged that almost every month, two to three people die due to non-availability of specialist doctors and surgeons in the state.
Meanwhile, reacting on the demand, state health minister Tapan Chakraborty said, “We also feel inadequacy of doctors and surgeons especially in cardiac and neuro departments, but the entire country is also suffering from shortage of doctors in such specialist wings.”
