Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) will begin the application process of the state entrance examination (SEE) 2013 for admissions to engineering and management colleges in the state from the last week of February. While the MBA, MCA aspirants will fill up the online application form, engineering candidates will have the option of both offline and online mode. The decision was taken in the meeting of Central Admission Board held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of UPTU vice-chancellor Prof RK Khandal. Application process refers to filling of application forms for various entrance examinations.
The meeting chose UPTU pro vice-chancellor Prof VK Singh as the SEE-2013 coordinator, while Manish Gaur, faculty, computer science and engineering at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Shailendra Sinha from mechanical engineering department of IET will be the deputy and assistant coordinator respectively. Tanvir Tahir from computer science and engineering department of IET will be the programmer. The entrance exam for MBA, MCA will be held on April 20 and that of BTech is scheduled to be held on April 21. The results will be declared latest by May 30. "We will follow the same process as that of last year. While entrance exam for MBA, MCA will be conducted online, SEE for admissions to engineering will be held in the traditional written mode. More students who apply for engineering course come from rural places and are not computer savvy," said Prof Singh.
The meeting also discussed the factors responsible for continuous drop in numbers in the technical institutions. For this, a committee comprising Prof Ashok Khanna, ex-director of IET; Prof Raghuvir Singh, director of BBD group of institutions, Vikram Singh, additional examination controller of UPTU and Prof Arun Mittal, head of mechanical engineering department at IET has been formed.
Also, for the first time, private colleges have been allowed to sell the SEE 2013 application forms and brochures. Till last year, candidates could only procure the brochure and application form from the post office.
The meeting also gave green signal to JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida and ABSS Institute of Technology, Meerut for starting dual course in Applied Management from the 2013-14 academic session. Admissions to this course will be through SEE. UPTU registrar US Tomer said that it will be a five-year programme, in which if any student drops out after three years, he will be given a Bachelor of Management (BM) degree and if he/she drops out after four years, he will get a degree of Bachelor of Applied Management (BAM). However, after the completion of the course, a candidate will get Masters of Applied Management (MAM) degree.
An important discussion that took place in the meeting was to compress the counselling schedule in order to attract more students. "Usually, the counselling extends to 40 days and since it takes place in July and August, most students choose other colleges. " said an official.
