The Common Entrance Test (CET) for engineering courses will be held according to the state syllabus as the national curriculum for II PUC has been implemented only from 2012-13.
Higher education minister CT Ravi said here on Friday that the decision on the entrance test for medical courses would be taken after the Supreme Court's verdict on this subject on Feb 5.
The Centre has asked all states to follow the National Eligibility Entrance Test for admission to medical courses across the country. Some states have challenged this decision. The court's judgment is expected next week. The Centre has proposed the Common Eligibility Entrance (CEE) for engineering courses across the country.
However, states like Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh implemented the national curriculum syllabus only this year.
"The first batch of those following the new syllabus will emerge in 2014. Therefore, the state can implement CEE only then," Ravi said. A tussle between the Centre and states has been going on over the former's move to introduce CEE.
