Govt to continue with CET this year

The State government has decided to continue with the Common Entrance Test (CET) for admissions to undergraduate engineering courses for 2013-14 academic year, Higher Education Minister C T Ravi said on Friday.

Addressing reporters, he said the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), a common, national-level test, is being conducted based on II PU CBSC syllabus. The State government has adopted the CBSC syllabus for first year PUC from 2012-13 academic year.

“The first batch of students who have completed PUC course under CBSC syllabus will come out only in 2014. Hence, it has been decided not to adopt the NEET now,” he explained.

CET in May

The CET will be conducted in May. Directions have been issued to the officials to take all necessary measures to ensure that the upcoming poll to the State Assembly does not affect the CET and cause any inconvenience to students. The department will hold a meeting with private college managements either on February 8 or 9 on finalising concessional agreement, he added.
