Five new IIT like institutes across the country by 2017

Addressing the students of IIT-Hyderabad, Union minister for human resource development MM Pallam Raju told that five new institutes of science, research and engineering will be set up in the country by 2017 as part of the 12th five-year plan.

‘’Our focus is on improving the human resource in every way possible. During the 11th plan period, 52 educational institutions, including eight IITs, seven IIMs, ten NITs, 12 central universities and two engineering schools of architecture, were set up. Prime minister Manmohan Singh has launched the National Skill Development Mission recently for imparting skills to about 50 crore youth in the country by 2020 so that they can survive and get employment anywhere in the world.’’he said.
Explaining the difference between new and old IITs, the Union HRD minister said new IITs were linked with industries and students were imparted knowledge that would spur industrial development.
He said four IITs figure in the top 60 institutes of technology in the world and every effort is being made to develop them to the level of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US.
