Underprivileged students spend a day at IIT-G

Around 65 underprivileged students from different schools were given an opportunity to interact with students of IIT-G and learn about the prospects of education at the institute on Saturday.

The event Social 360 was held under the inaugural edition of Sociothon, which is held under Techniche, the annual technical and management festival of IIT-G. The team also sponsored the education of two underprivileged students till graduation.

The initiative is aimed at spreading joy and affection among the less fortunate and giving them a day to remember and rejoice. The event also organised a workshop in math, origami, motivation, aero-modelling and others. The event was attended by Manmohan Pandey, chairman of the technical board of IIT-G.

"It was a special day for us because we could render our services to these children. We are deeply moved as we could do our bit for them. The event was held at the study activity centre of IIT-G. We also held some competitions for the children so that they can cultivate a competitive spirit in them. The students were also accompanied by the principals of their respective schools. We are also sponsoring the education of two underprivileged students till graduation," said A B R Bharadwaj, team member of Tecniche.

Techniche also conducts blood donation camp, free health groups, the Guwahati Half Marathon and other social initiatives as part of Social 360. Last year too, the Techniche team had come forward to sponsor the education of two underprivileged students till graduation.
