To avoid fake admission in IITs physical verification is must

In academic year 2012-13 two candidates(1 boy and 1 girl) were offered seats in IITs without clearing entrance test IIT JEE 2012. They used digitally doctored admit cards of successful aspirants. To avoid such fake admission in IITs  the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have made ‘physical verification’ mandatory for all selected students this year. Unlike previous years, this time students will have to be physically present at the respective zonal centres for the verification of their certificates.
“This year to avoid any attempt on fake admission in IITs, we have made it compulsory for students to personally verify their original documents. Till last year, they used to send us the photocopies of their certificates,” said Prof HC Gupta, organising chairman of JEE (advanced).
What students did last year
  • Two IIT-JEE aspirants buy admit cards of two successful candidates
  • They digitally doctor photos and based on ranks select seats during online counselling
  • Go to respective campus and presented doctored card during physical verification.
Last year The IITs caught the fraud students – when they physically came to their campuses after selecting seats through the online counseling. There was a mismatch between their digital thumb imprints and those of the candidates who cleared the JEE.
