Countrywide parents and students are opposing normalisation method used by CBSE this year for calculation of 40% XII board marks. 53 Parents submitted the petition in Supreme Court on tuesday after the petition was deferred by Delhi high court. 1. Petitioners says that ranking system adopted by the Joint Entrance Exam (Main) was not fair and affected many students.
2. The Double bench order says that all admissions are subject to a final disposal of matter by the Supreme Court.
3. Petitioners have major complaint with the normalisation done to the board marks
Short example showing the blunder:
A student scoring 92% in CBSE Boards (getting 96.5%ile will get 0.4*80 = 32 marks out of 144)
A student scoring 96% in CBSE Boards (getting 99.6%ile will get around 0.4*300 = 120 marks out of 144)
A mere difference of 20 marks in boards (which should have ideally contributed 0.4*20 = 8 marks difference in final ranking) gets amplified by a factor of 1100% (120-32 = 88), and thousands of students will lose out in the new system.
4, Supreme Court will wait for the AP High Court judgement and of other High Courts, before hearing next appeal from petitioners.

The judge has asked CBSE officials to be personally present on Wednesday to explain why so many anomalies in the rankings have cropped up, and to explain the formula
Final judgement from AP high court is expected on July 17.
