19,738 candidates appear for DCET re-exam

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) conducted a re-exam for the Diploma Common Entrance Test (DCET) on Sunday.

The entrance test is for all diploma students seeking lateral entry into second year engineering courses. The Examinations Authority had conducted the exam on June 16, 2013.

However, after a section of the media reported that several of the questions in the paper were similar to those asked in the previous year’s entrance test, the Department of Higher Education decided to conduct a re-exam.

Accordingly, a re-exam was held on Sunday. The entrance exam will decide eligibility to both day and evening courses of engineering colleges.

The attendance had gone down from the previous exam on June 16, as per the KEA statistics. During the first exam, there was an attendance of 87.39 per cent recorded while on Sunday, it dropped to 81.34 per cent. The exam was held between 9 am and 12 pm for 180 marks in all.
